We've had a hectic week with an amazing weekend of workshops with Mat Jacobs all the way from Barcelona, hosted by our very own Elise and Brigid, the lovely ladies from The Gilded Mask - http://www.thegildedmask.com.au/ They'll be posting about the experience soon, but in the meantime let's talk about all the stuff that comes along with bellydance - costumes, jewellery, make-up, swords, zils, veils, notebooks, dvds, sewing gear and so on - and what we do with it.
Sometimes in the lead-up to a gig, my costumes can end up looking like this picture. I aspire to be super organized with my dance gear, but am not always successful. That being said, there are some elements of my storage set-up that I'm pretty happy with, so I thought I'd share some of the things that work for me (and hope that some of you have great ideas I can incorporate as well!)
While ideally I'd like to have a single dedicated dance space at home, it doesn't really work out that way at present. My costumes and dancewear have their own spot all together on my clothes rack but other things are spread out.
Earrings and necklaces tend to live on this awesome stand, which sits at my 'make-up station'. I really like being able to see what I have at a glance, because it encourages me to use different pieces rather that defaulting to the same one!
Rings and small bits and pieces - trinkets if you will - go into small ornate boxes like these on my dressing table.
I love these divided plastic crates, which I think I got at a discount store. They are fantastic for keeping belts and hip scarves neat, visible and organized, and you can stack them up neatly to save space. I have about four of them!
This hanging organizer with small plastic pockets has been super useful for storing small bracelets, rings, costuming trinkets and even pasties back in my burlesque days. Again, I love being able to see what I have quickly and easily!
For on the go (and now with bonus Kitten butt) I alternate between these guys - a toolbox from bunnings and a padded equipment case. At some point in the future though, I want to get me one of the deluxe dance bags with built-in clothes racks. Google it. Trust me.
So that's some of how I store my stuff - I'd love to hear any new ideas from you ...
